Our heartfelt congratulations to Boris Chaumette of Institut Pasteur on being named a Franco-British Council Young Leader 2025! His selection recognises his strong partnerships with UK institutions including UCL, King’s College London, Cardiff University, and The University of Edinburgh.
Boris Chaumette
Boris Chaumette is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at University Paris Cité and a neuroscience researcher. A graduate of the prestigious École de l’INSERM-Liliane Bettencourt, he earned a PhD in neurobiology in Paris and completed his medical degree with a specialization in psychiatry in Rouen in 2016. Following a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at McGill University in Canada, he returned to France to lead the Reference Center for Rare Psychiatric Diseases at Sainte-Anne Hospital.
Since Fall 2024, Dr. Chaumette has been working at the Pasteur Institute within Thomas Bourgeron's team, Human Genetics and Cognitive Functions. This translational research group focuses on uncovering the origins of neurodevelopmental disorders through innovative approaches that combine human genomics, brain imaging analysis, and mice studies.
Dr. Chaumette’s research has contributed significantly to the understanding of gene-environment interactions in the development of psychiatric illnesses, using multi-omic methods. In recognition of this work, he received the Eloi Collery Prize from the French National Academy of Medicine in 2024.
He also holds leadership positions at the Institut Robert Debré du Cerveau de l’Enfant and in the PEPR PROPSY, a national initiative to advance precision psychiatry through biomarker discovery and patient stratification. As part of this effort, he recently joined the UK-French Mental Health Biomarkers Consortium.
His selection as one Franco-British Young Leader 2025 reflects his active collaborations with UK institutions such as University College London, King’s College London, Cardiff University, University of Edinburgh... This appointment is expected to further strengthen partnerships between the Pasteur Institute and British research teams.
