Bridging Expertise for Global Health
With Quanteam UK
We are hugely grateful for Quanteam UK’s generous and enduring support of the Pasteur Foundation UK. Having stood alongside us since our inception in 2024, Quanteam UK’s commitment has been instrumental to our mission, culminating most recently in their role as the major funder of the very first PFUK Impact Grant.
By backing this crucial seed-funding initiative, Quanteam UK is directly enabling early-stage researchers to transform high-potential ideas into tangible scientific breakthroughs. This partnership aligns seamlessly with Quanteam’s own scientifically based model, strong research and development practices, and profound dedication to empowering the next generation of talent. As an organisation that recognises the immense value of collaboration between Britain and France, Quanteam UK is helping to ensure that the brightest minds have the sustained, multi-year resources they need to tackle today's most pressing global challenges.
In the following interview with Quanteam UK’s Managing Director, Antoine Ducher, we explore why the company has chosen to champion the PFUK Impact Grant, and how this vital support reflects their broader belief in the power of cross-border science.
Interview with Quanteam UK's Managing Director: Antoine Ducher
Looking back at the inception of our partnership, what was it about the Pasteur Foundation UK’s mission that resonated most with your team’s core values?
AD: I have personally donated to the Institut Pasteur for years for a number of reasons: firstly, because my father was a doctor with a diploma in tropical medicine; secondly, because I have a scientific background and have always held researchers in the highest regard, with Pasteur among them; and finally, because the benefits of science are so obvious and yet, paradoxically, are so often challenged nowadays.
So, when the opportunity arose to establish a foundation in the UK for the Institut Pasteur, with the aim of attracting more international donations and fostering greater collaboration between our countries and among many renowned institutions, I did not want to miss the chance to make our modest contribution to this endeavour.
I also feel that Quanteam UK share common ground and values with the Foundation, as we have a scientifically based model, a strong research and development practice, a strong appetite for growth, a dedication to service, and a well-established model for promoting younger generations through their optimism, willingness and adaptability.
The PF-UK Impact Grant requires a sustained funding commitment to maintain the sustainability of important cross-channel research programmes. Why does Quanteam UK believe it is so important for businesses to provide stable, multi-year support to scientists?
It is absolutely key to provide regular and sustainable support and funding because scientific breakthroughs come from women and men who dedicate their full time in the labs, day after day, in constant search of understanding and progress for all of us. We therefore believe it is natural and necessary to provide the same dedication and consistency to them and understand as we do that research is a long game of investment and return.
This partnership fosters collaboration between the Institut Pasteur in Paris and UK-based institutions. From a business perspective, how do you see the value of cross-border partnerships in solving today's most pressing global challenges?
In an increasingly connected world, we have the opportunity to be able to operate and service across frontiers to expand and generate value to our customers. Therefore, it is key to leverage cross borders partnerships in order to address global challenges our customers face by complementing our expertise with the right accuracy, speed, and cost.
I feel that setting up a presence in the UK with the Foundation in order to access new funds, new interests but also new partnerships was crucial for an institution like Institut Pasteur whose work has a direct impact on the entire world and not to just one country. Additionally, the complementary aspect of the expertise, models, and culture between cross-borders institutions might shorten cycles for science breakthroughs.
Reflecting on your status as the major funder of our first Impact Grant, what impact are you most proud of seeing thus far, and what message would you send to other organisations considering supporting cross-border scientific research?
Knowing that our support helped put two world-class institutions in the same room (working together on something as critical as global diphtheria surveillance) is something I find genuinely moving. This isn't abstract. It's real scientists, doing real work, that could protect real lives. That is a privilege to be part of.
To other organisations considering a similar step: don't wait for the perfect moment. The need is now, and the barrier to making a meaningful contribution is lower than you might think. Find a cause that resonates with who you are, commit to it seriously and for the long term, and trust that the ripple effects will be far greater than you can measure. Science is one of the few investments that truly compounds over time, and all of us benefit from it.
